Photographing architecture requires skill, experience, and a desire to understand — to understand the space and what you want to convey. As an architectural photographer based in Rome and working worldwide, I collaborate closely with the client: architect, engineer, or hospitality manager.

First, we search for the right frame, then bring it to life with light. Light must be studied, sought, waited for, or created — it enhances details, reveals proportions, and brings spaces to life. Volumes exist because of contrast in light and color with other elements, which is why light alone is not enough. Sometimes, the arrangement of individual objects or moving the frame by just a few millimeters can make an image clear and detailed or confusing in its parts.

Architectural photography follows precise rules that must be known and respected to deliver a product recognized as professional. Light is important — indeed, essential — but not sufficient. You need the right equipment, capable of enhancing detail without distorting lines, perspectives, or volumes.

In architecture, buildings are created with indispensable rules to ensure final stability and solidity. One such rule is the verticality of elements to ensure gravitational force has no lateral thrusts that would weaken static balance. In photography, just as in construction, a level is used to ensure the frame is perfectly orthogonal to the walls being photographed, producing images that convey stability and compositional balance.

But rules, as we know, sometimes need to be “teased.”

I started as an architectural photographer in Rome, but I grew professionally in other countries where aesthetic standards and cultural sensibilities expanded my perspective. Today, my approach combines the technical rigor of the Italian tradition with the ability to interpret each project through a fresh lens, turning the client’s needs into images that tell the essence of the space.
